I recently started playing X3: Reunion, and it was a real love/hate relationship. The game is a lot of fun... Has tons of potential... But it's also got a lot of rough edges.

I'd thoroughly enjoy myself for a while... Then run into something crazy-weird and just stop having fun. Something like the jump drive needing energy cells to work, but that little fact not being mentioned anywhere at all.

It was getting to the point where I was just too frustrated with the game to keep playing. I knew that no matter how much fun I was having, I'd wind up pulling my hair out before too long.

But, throughout this ordeal, I kept seeing mentions of X3: Terran Conflict.

It's a slightly newer game... And supposedly has been much improved...

I kept pondering whether I should actually spend the money on a copy of X3:TC when I was so frustrated with X3:R... Or whether I should just cut my losses...

Eventually I decided to track down a copy of X3:TC through less-than-legal means...

And I have to say, it is an absolutely terrific game. Huge improvement over X3:R.

The GUI is vastly improved. There's actually a tutorial. You get paid for the missions you run. The difficulty curve isn't quite so steep. Things are actually documented in-game. You can get information in-game about the ships, missiles, and weapons you're using. It's fantastic!

So, this weekend, I'm going to have to buy a copy of X3:TC.
