More X3:R last night...
It's got a bit of a learning curve. And absolutely no tutorial at all. Plus, the copy I have just came in a jewel case, so I've got no instruction book. Good thing there's a decent website and lively community... I downloaded a copy of the manual and found lots of helpful forum posts.
Turns out there's a "Quickstart" for newbs like me - gives you some better weapons, more cash, and a second ship.
So, I started over again. Did the first patrol mission again. Did the turret gunner thing again. Got rescued before my spacesuit failed again. And then I went off-the-rails a bit... I'm supposed to be going after the pirates right now, but I decided to take a look around first.
I've been wandering around space, checking out different sectors, learning where things are and how they work, playing around with the UI, things like that...
I bought a police license, so I'll get paid for killing badguys.
And I sent my second ship, some kind of freighter type thing, to pick up a software upgrade. Once I've got that new software I should be able to have it do trading on its own. Which should, hopefully, be a decent source of additional income.
